Our For The City emphasis for October is Block Parties. The weather is beautiful, and what better way to engage your neighbors than by hosting a neighborhood block party!? We would encourage you to ask your Bible Study Class for help. They can bring food, cook, and run some activities with the kids all the while you are able to build better relationships with your neighbors.
Don’t make this elaborate! Remember the goal is relationships. Cook some hamburgers and hotdogs, enlist your neighbors or Bible Study Class to bring the sides and drinks, get a corn hole game, maybe offer some face painting and bubbles, play some music, and you have yourself an epic block party! Our church has a grill and tables and chairs for you to borrow.
If your neighborhood already does something for Halloween, get involved in that for sure. You can do your block party on a Friday or Saturday or Sunday evening anytime during the month.
Also, don’t make this a hard sale for inviting people to church. It will make it feel like a bait and switch, and no one likes that. Don’t grab a microphone and publicly preach and offer an invitation to your church. Just allow conversations to happen naturally with church and/or the gospel coming up out of that natural conversation.
