On October 8th we will be celebrating Columbus Day – not Christopher Columbus – but Columbus, Ohio. For three years now we have been the Lead Partner Church in Columbus, Ohio, for the North American Mission Board’s Send Initiative. We have committed during this partnership to give $150,000 over 5 years to go towards church planting efforts in the city. We have already raised over $100,000!
God has been at work in Columbus in recent years. The number of SBC churches grew by more than 60 percent from 2005 to 2012. New churches have started that are engaging sections of the community that had yet to be reached. Yet work remains. The home of the Buckeyes is also in need of the gospel. Only 12.1 percent of the population is affiliated with an evangelical church. There is also only one Southern Baptist church for every 16,021 people.
God is doing some great things in Columbus! Will you be apart of that work? Please come prepared on October 8th to either give or make a commitment to give as we finish out this fantastic partnership.
